So you want to know when something is happening?

We added an interactive calendar that allows you to look up events by dates, locations, types … you name it. It also will give you a Google map to the location along with all the information on the venue and event.
Much thanks goes out to Mary Metcalf who spends many hours keeping it updated and functional. We pride ourselves on providing our readers, both in the paper and on the Web, with the most comprehensive calendars so you know what’s going on when you want to know it. Check it out here, it’s pretty cool.

I agree; it is pretty cool.
I have a somewhat related question. I am wondering if the paper publishes when Illinois College has their convocations open to the community. I have seen stories about them afterwards in the paper, but I never saw anything about it ahead of time. I wasn’t sure if this was something I would have to get from the college or if it was published. I never appreciated them when I was forced to go, but now that I am older and wiser :), I have seen some interesting topics that I might have enjoyed.

Miss Optimistic,
To be honest, I’m not really sure but I will find out. One cool thing about our online calendar is that it allows folks in the community (and anywhere for that matter) to submit events to be included on the calendar. If they are legit (yes, we do check them out!), we would love to include all types of events on the calendar. If you have any questions on how to submit, see the calendar section or call Mary Metcalf at 245-6121.
Thanks for your question! Keep them coming!

Miss Optimistic,
I promised you an answer to the question so here is what I’ve found out from our newsroom secretary, Mary Metcalf:
“We always list them in the week ahead and daily calendar, but I don’t call it a convocation. We list the title, speaker, day, time, place. If the college sends me a press release, then I generally put a short write-up in Morgan briefs. Anything listed in the daily calendar is open to the public.”
We may start listing these with the “convocations” identifier to help folks identify what they are. I hope this helped answer your question!
